Dr. Michael J. Waddell, AI Developer / BioInformaticist -
Mr. Waddell joined Pangaea as an artificial intelligence application developer and bioinformaticist. Mr. Waddell's expertise is focused on the use of artificial intelligence to model large and complex data sets. Mr. Waddell is currently working on developing AI-based systems for national defense, homeland security and public health surveillance. Mr. Waddell is the lead developer on the trend based syndromic surveillance system and the GUARDIAN system being developed with Rush University Medical Center for the US Army Medical Research and Materiel Command (USAMRMC). The GUARDIAN system is a real time disease detection expert system that leverages artificial intelligence, clinical experience and geospatial analyses to detect biological threat agents and naturally occurring diseases in patient populations. Mr. Waddell also served as the lead developer for the Chicago Department of Children and Youth Services web based project locator. Mr. Waddell is the lead developer for IT and database support to After School matters, a Chicago based non-profit. During his tenure at the University of Wisconsin-Madison, Mr. Waddell completed an internship at Abbott Laboratories where he designed and implemented the AI-based SELDI Filter, an application for automated analysis of proteomic mass spectrometry data. Mr. Waddell holds B.S. degrees (with honors) in Mathematics, Biochemistry and Molecular Biology; an M.S. in Computer Sciences (Artificial Intelligence); and is expecting his Ph.D. in Computer Sciences (Artificial Intelligence with a Biomedical Statistics minor) in 2008, all from the University of Wisconsin.
