Steven B. Shumaker, Senior Scientist and Analyst -
Mr. Shumaker is an environmental scientist with 12 years of experience in the use of geographic information systems and remote sensing technologies. His responsibilities with Pangaea include directing the development and application of geospatial technology throughout all of Pangaea's projects as well as providing analytical support to Pangaea's application development group. Mr. Shumaker is currently working on a variety of projects including the Illinois National Guard Bureau's Collaborative Information Management System and an Interim Needs Assessment for the Commission for Environmental Cooperation. Mr. Shumaker has considerable experience in military land management, environmental and municipal GIS design and development, remote sensing applications, and field-based environmental studies. Specifically, Mr. Shumaker's expertise lies in the development and administration of Enterprise GIS, the creation of GIS data set standards, web based mapping applications and landscape scale landcover mapping using hyperspectral and multispectral imagery. Before his work with Pangaea, Mr. Shumaker worked in the public sector as a contractor for the Environmental Protection Agency updating and maintaining their Region 10 Internet locational database application. He has also worked for the City of West Linn, Oregon, where he developed and maintained utility layers for the City's GIS and Public Works departments. Mr. Shumaker's previous private sector experience includes work with an engineering firm where he provided geospatial database management and analysis for suburban and urban planning projects. Mr. Shumaker holds Master's and Bachelor's Degrees in Environmental Science from Indiana University.
